Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and proactive Workplace Safety Assistant to join our team in Tamworth. This role is essential in supporting the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) framework within our government body. The successful candidate will assist in maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with WHS regulations, and contributing to a culture of safety awareness. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organizational skills and a commitment to workplace safety to contribute to a vital public service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of WHS policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Help coordinate WHS training sessions for staff and maintain training records.
  • Support the investigation of WHS incidents, accidents, and near misses, including documentation and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate WHS records, including risk assessments, safety data sheets, and incident reports.
  • Provide administrative support to the WHS Manager and broader team.
  • Contribute to the promotion of a positive WHS culture across the department.

Required Skills

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an administrative or support role, preferably within a WHS or government environment.
  • Knowledge of WHS legislation and standards in New South Wales.
  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent.
