Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Viticulturist / Vineyard Manager to oversee all aspects of our vineyard operations in Temecula, CA. This pivotal role involves managing the health and productivity of our grapevines, ensuring optimal grape quality for our winemaking process. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring vineyard activities throughout the growing season. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement vineyard management strategies, including pruning, canopy management, irrigation, pest and disease control, and fertilization.
- Monitor vine health and growth, soil conditions, and microclimates to optimize grape quality and yield.
- Manage vineyard crew, including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising daily tasks.
- Operate and maintain vineyard equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety protocols are followed.
- Maintain detailed records of vineyard activities, treatments, and grape development.
- Collaborate closely with the winemaking team to ensure grape quality meets winemaking specifications.
- Implement and adhere to sustainable viticultural practices and environmental regulations.
- Prepare and manage the annual vineyard budget.
- Stay informed of new viticultural research, techniques, and technologies.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in vineyard management or viticulture.
- Strong understanding of grape growing principles, pest management, and soil science.
- Proficiency in vineyard equipment operation and maintenance.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license.
- Fluency in English (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Viticulture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Experience with organic or biodynamic farming practices.
- Knowledge of local Temecula Valley viticultural conditions and challenges.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
