Job Description

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Virtual Tax Return Reviewer to join our dedicated Public Sector Tax team. This is a 100% remote position where you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of tax returns for our public sector clients. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of federal and state tax laws, exceptional analytical skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity. You will be responsible for reviewing a diverse range of tax returns, identifying potential issues, and providing actionable feedback to preparers, all while working from the comfort of your home.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough and accurate reviews of various tax returns (e.g., Form 990, 1120, 1065, state specific returns) prepared for public sector entities and government contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.
• Identify discrepancies, errors, and potential tax implications, providing constructive feedback and recommendations to tax preparers.
• Collaborate with tax preparers and managers to resolve complex tax issues and improve return preparation processes.
• Stay current with changes in tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, especially those impacting the public sector.
• Maintain meticulous documentation of review findings and recommendations.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training initiatives.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of US federal and state tax laws and regulations.
• Proficiency in tax preparation and review software (e.g., CCH Axcess, GoSystem Tax RS).
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote environment.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation.
• Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting.
• Experience working with public sector clients or government contractors.
• Familiarity with public sector accounting principles (GASB).
