Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veteran Affairs Support Officer to join our team in Bathurst. This vital role involves providing direct support and assistance to veterans and their families, helping them navigate various government services and access the benefits they are entitled to. You will be the primary point of contact, offering information, guidance, and empathetic support. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide front-line customer service and support to veterans and their families, both in person and over the phone.
  • Assist clients with inquiries related to veteran entitlements, pensions, health services, and other government programs.
  • Guide clients through application processes, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external agencies to resolve client issues and escalate complex cases as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with privacy regulations.
  • Provide information on local support networks, community services, and referral pathways for veterans.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay informed about changes in veteran affairs policies and services.
  • Contribute to a positive and respectful service centre environment, upholding the values of Service NSW.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Australian Citizenship or permanent residency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service, administrative, or support role, particularly within a government or community services setting.
  • Knowledge of veteran affairs or public service systems.
  • A tertiary qualification in social work, community services, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working with diverse client groups, particularly those who may be vulnerable or experiencing hardship.
