Job Description

The Ville de Blainville is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Trainee Weights & Measures Inspector. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in a structured training program covering weights and measures regulations, inspection techniques, and equipment calibration.
  • Accompany and assist senior inspectors on site visits to various commercial establishments, including retail stores, gas stations, and industrial facilities.
  • Learn to inspect and test commercial weighing and measuring devices (e.g., scales, gas pumps, meters) for accuracy and compliance with provincial and federal standards.
  • Assist in documenting inspection findings, preparing reports, and issuing notices of violation when necessary, under supervision.
  • Develop an understanding of relevant legislation, bylaws, and procedures related to weights and measures enforcement.
  • Communicate effectively with business owners and operators, explaining inspection processes and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain inspection equipment and vehicles in good working order.
  • Respond to and investigate consumer complaints regarding weights and measures, as part of the training program.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent) and a clean driving record.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new regulations and technologies.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Commitment to ethical conduct and public service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant technical field (e.g., engineering technology, quality assurance, administration).
  • Experience in a customer service or public-facing role.
  • Knowledge of basic measurement principles or metrology.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
