Job Description

Downer Group is seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join our team as Trainee Traffic Controllers in Maitland, NSW. No prior experience is necessary – we provide comprehensive, paid training to ensure you are fully equipped and certified to manage traffic safely and efficiently. This role offers high hourly rates, particularly for weekend shifts, and is perfect for those seeking consistent work, a supportive team environment, and a clear path for career development in a critical industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete all provided training modules to become a certified Traffic Controller.
- Implement traffic management plans according to safety standards and regulations.
- Direct traffic safely and efficiently around construction sites, roadworks, and events.
- Operate stop/slow bats, two-way radios, and other traffic control equipment.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with drivers, pedestrians, and team members.
- Maintain a safe work environment for colleagues and the public.
- Adhere to all site-specific safety procedures and company policies.
- Assist with the setup and pack-down of traffic control signage and equipment.
Required Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn and commit to a comprehensive training program.
- Valid Australian Driver's License and reliable transport.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current White Card (Construction Induction Card) – can be obtained during training.
- Basic knowledge of local road rules and regulations.
- Previous experience in a role requiring attention to safety.
