Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic surgical team at Prince County Hospital. This essential role involves ensuring safe and efficient surgical procedures by providing crucial support to surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of surgical principles, aseptic technique, and patient safety. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field and surgical environment according to established protocols.
- Assemble and organize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies efficiently.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures by expertly passing instruments and supplies.
- Maintain an accurate count of sponges, sharps, and instruments throughout surgical procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and surgical draping.
- Handle specimens according to strict protocols, ensuring proper labeling and delivery.
- Ensure proper care, cleaning, and sterilization of instruments and equipment post-procedure.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Actively participate in team briefings and debriefings to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
Required Skills
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent international qualification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile technique.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure surgical environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the surgical team.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Eligibility to work in Canada (international applicants will receive support through the immigration process).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a variety of surgical specialties, such as orthopedics, general surgery, or gynecology.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Previous experience working in a Canadian healthcare setting.
- Fluency in French is considered a valuable asset.
