Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in children’s lives and love the great outdoors? YMCA Tasmania is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Summer Camp Leaders to join our team for casual day shifts in Sandy Bay. This is a fantastic opportunity to inspire young minds, lead exciting activities, and create unforgettable summer memories. You’ll be instrumental in delivering engaging programs that promote teamwork, skill development, and a love for nature, all while ensuring the safety and well-being of our campers. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage groups of children in various camp activities, ensuring their safety and participation.
  • Lead and facilitate outdoor games, arts and crafts, sports, and other recreational programs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all campers.
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating YMCA values.
  • Assist with the setup and pack-down of activity equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with camp coordinators, fellow leaders, and parents as required.
  • Administer basic first aid if necessary and follow emergency procedures.
  • Ensure all camp policies and procedures, especially those related to child safety, are strictly adhered to.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and a passion for working with children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and think on your feet.
  • Current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) check or willingness to obtain one.
  • Legal right to work in Australia.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a leadership role, childcare, or youth programs (e.g., coaching, tutoring, babysitting).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with outdoor activities or recreation.
