Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Student Well-being Lead to join our dynamic team at Murray River High School. This pivotal role involves leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive well-being programs and services for our high school students. The successful candidate will be a compassionate advocate for student mental health and social-emotional learning, working collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and external agencies to create a nurturing and resilient school community. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying student needs, intervening effectively, and promoting a positive school culture where every student feels safe, supported, and valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a school-wide well-being framework and strategy.
- Coordinate and deliver targeted social-emotional learning programs and workshops.
- Provide individual and group support to students experiencing well-being challenges, including mental health, social, and emotional issues.
- Liaise with parents/guardians and external support agencies to ensure integrated care for students.
- Support staff in identifying and responding to student well-being concerns, providing professional development where appropriate.
- Manage critical incidents and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of well-being initiatives, making data-informed adjustments.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with school policies and privacy regulations.
- Champion a positive school culture that prioritizes student well-being and inclusivity.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in student welfare, counseling, or a related field within an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and common well-being challenges faced by high school students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in crisis management and de-escalation techniques.
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain one.
- Knowledge of relevant child protection and welfare legislation in Victoria.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Education, or a related field.
- Registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., AASW, PACFA, AHPRA).
- Experience in program development and evaluation.
- First Aid and Mental Health First Aid certification.
