Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Stevedore to join our port operations team in Swan Hill. This role is crucial for the efficient loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring timely and safe turnaround of vessels. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of port logistics, material handling equipment, and strict adherence to safety protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Operate various types of heavy lifting and material handling equipment, including forklifts, reach stackers, and cranes (where certified).
- Load and unload cargo from vessels, barges, and trucks, ensuring proper securing and stowage.
- Monitor and inspect cargo for damage, reporting any discrepancies immediately.
- Liaise effectively with vessel crew, port authorities, and logistics coordinators.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Participate in pre-shift briefings and equipment checks.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area.
- Assist with rigging and unrigging operations as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Stevedore or in a similar port operations role.
- Demonstrated ability to operate heavy machinery (e.g., forklifts, reach stackers) safely and efficiently.
- Solid understanding of cargo handling procedures and port logistics.
- Excellent physical fitness and ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with all regulations.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant crane operation certification (e.g., Dogging, Rigging, C2, CN).
- First Aid certification.
- Hazardous materials handling experience.
- Experience with computerized cargo management systems.
