Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Special Events & Gala Fundraising Intern to join our dynamic Development team. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring professional interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, event planning, and donor relations within a leading academic medical center. The intern will support the planning, execution, and follow-up for key fundraising events, including our annual gala and smaller stewardship events. This role offers exposure to all facets of event management, from logistics and vendor coordination to donor communication and post-event analysis. Full training and mentorship will be provided, making this an ideal role for individuals with little to no prior professional experience but a strong passion for making a difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning and coordination of fundraising events, including the annual gala and smaller donor cultivation events.
- Support event logistics, including venue selection, catering, entertainment, and decor.
- Help manage event registration, attendee communication, and database entry.
- Conduct research on potential donors, corporate sponsors, and vendors.
- Prepare event materials such as invitations, programs, signage, and presentations.
- Assist with post-event activities, including donor thank-yous, survey distribution, and data analysis.
- Support the Development team with administrative tasks as needed, including correspondence, filing, and scheduling.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless event execution and communication.
Required Skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated interest in nonprofit work, fundraising, or event planning.
- Enthusiastic and proactive attitude with a willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Previous volunteer experience in event planning or fundraising.
- Familiarity with CRM software (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce) is a plus, but not required.
