Job Description

We are seeking a highly passionate, dedicated, and skilled Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher to join our inclusive team in Jersey City. This role is pivotal in fostering an environment where students with diverse learning needs can thrive. You will be instrumental in ensuring equitable access to high-quality education and supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special educational needs, in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide direct, differentiated instruction to students in one-on-one, small group, and inclusive classroom settings.
  • Continuously assess student progress, track data, and adjust instructional strategies to meet evolving needs and IEP goals.
  • Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive educational experience.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, promoting a positive, structured, and productive learning environment.
  • Participate actively in IEP meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date student records.
  • Implement evidence-based practices and adapt curriculum materials to make them accessible and appropriate for students with various disabilities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a closely related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education (or eligibility for New Jersey certification).
  • Minimum of 3 years (36 months) of proven experience working with students with a range of special educational needs.
  • Strong working knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and assessment practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse school community.
  • Familiarity with relevant educational technologies and assistive devices.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. federal special education laws and regulations (e.g., IDEA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Special Education or a related discipline.
  • Experience with specific intervention programs and methodologies (e.g., ABA, Orton-Gillingham).
  • Bilingual proficiency, particularly in Spanish, is a significant asset.
  • Prior experience teaching in a charter school or urban education setting.
  • Familiarity with the Skilled Worker Visa application processes or previous international work experience.
