Job Description
We are seeking a talented Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our dynamic team in Cheltenham. As an SRE at BT Group, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our critical systems and services. You will bridge the gap between development and operations, applying software engineering principles to solve operational problems. This role involves proactive monitoring, incident response, automation of operational tasks, and continuous improvement of our infrastructure and processes. You will work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to a culture of operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable and resilient infrastructure for critical services.
- Develop and implement automation for operational tasks, deployments, and infrastructure provisioning.
- Monitor system health, performance, and availability, setting up alerts and dashboards.
- Participate in on-call rotations to respond to incidents and perform root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure new features are designed for reliability and operational readiness.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and operational inefficiencies.
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to streamline software delivery.
- Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and best practices for operational procedures.
Required Skills
- Strong experience with Linux operating systems and shell scripting (Bash, Python).
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
- Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).
- Experience with specific database technologies (SQL, NoSQL).
- Knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments.
- Prior experience in a large-scale enterprise environment.
