Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and community-minded individuals to join our team as School Crossing Officers. This vital role involves ensuring the safety of children and pedestrians as they cross roads at designated school crossings during peak school hours. If you are reliable, enjoy working outdoors, and have a passion for community safety, we encourage you to apply. Full training will be provided, so no prior experience is necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely facilitate the crossing of children and pedestrians at designated school crossings.
- Effectively manage traffic flow and movement during busy school drop-off and pick-up times.
- Promote and educate children, parents, and motorists on safe pedestrian practices and road rules.
- Act as a visible and approachable point of contact for the community, offering assistance and information where appropriate.
- Report any safety concerns, incidents, or equipment issues to the relevant supervisor promptly.
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism and friendly conduct while on duty.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with children and adults.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work independently and adhere to established safety procedures and guidelines.
- A genuine commitment to child safety and wellbeing.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of road safety rules (comprehensive training will be provided).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a community-facing or customer service role.
- A current First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
- A valid Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain one upon offer of employment).
- Familiarity with the Bairnsdale local area and school zones.
