Gresham Smith is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Roller Coaster Engineering Intern to join our innovative team in Nashville, TN. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers with structural analysis and design calculations for amusement park attractions, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards.
- Support the creation and review of technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications using CAD software.
- Participate in site visits and inspections to existing or developing project sites, gaining practical field experience.
- Conduct research on materials, construction methods, and safety standards specific to roller coasters and other thrill rides.
- Help prepare comprehensive project documentation, reports, and engaging presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including architects, civil engineers, and project managers, to integrate design components.
- Learn and apply relevant industry codes and regulations, such as ASTM F2291 Standard Practice for Design and Manufacture of Amusement Rides and Devices.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Basic understanding of structural mechanics, dynamics, and material science principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and data analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for clear and concise technical reporting.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous exposure to CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks) or other engineering design tools.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) software or simulation tools.
- Experience with physics-based simulation or modeling tools is a plus.
- Demonstrated interest in amusement park design, structural dynamics, or recreational engineering.
- Prior academic projects involving structural design, dynamics, or complex mechanical systems.
