Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Respiratory Therapist to join our dynamic team in New Westminster, BC. This critical role involves providing advanced respiratory care to patients across various clinical settings, including acute care, intensive care, and emergency departments. The successful candidate will play a vital role in patient assessment, treatment planning, and the delivery of high-quality respiratory interventions, contributing to positive patient outcomes in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate individualized care plans.
- Administer various respiratory treatments including oxygen therapy, nebulized medications, aerosol therapy, and chest physiotherapy.
- Initiate, monitor, and manage mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, and artificial airways.
- Assist physicians with specialized procedures such as bronchoscopy, intubation, and arterial blood gas sampling.
- Educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions, treatment regimens, and disease management techniques.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure holistic patient care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and professional development activities.
Required Skills
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of British Columbia (CRTCBC).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Proficiency in clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
- Strong technical skills with various respiratory care equipment and technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Experience in specialized areas such as Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), or Emergency Department.
- Previous experience mentoring or precepting students or new graduates.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to British Columbia's diverse population.
