Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Remote Building Permit Processor to join our local government team. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to contribute to critical city operations from anywhere within the state of New Mexico. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing, processing, and tracking building permit applications, ensuring compliance with local codes and regulations. You will serve as a key point of contact for applicants, providing guidance and support throughout the permitting process.
Key Responsibilities
- Review building permit applications for completeness and accuracy, verifying required documentation.
- Process permit applications in accordance with established departmental procedures and regulatory guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with applicants, contractors, and internal departments regarding application status, deficiencies, and requirements.
- Utilize permit tracking software to maintain detailed records of all applications, inspections, and approvals.
- Calculate and collect permit fees, ensuring proper financial reconciliation.
- Assist in the interpretation of zoning ordinances and building codes relevant to permit applications.
- Prepare and issue permits upon approval, ensuring all conditions are met.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with changes in codes, regulations, and departmental policies.
- Provide administrative support to the building safety division as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience with administrative tasks and data entry.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Familiarity with interpreting regulations and guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a related field (e.g., Public Administration, Business Administration).
- Previous experience in a local government setting, particularly with permitting or planning departments.
- Experience using permitting or GIS software.
- Knowledge of basic building and zoning codes.
