Job Description
Are you looking for an entry-level opportunity to kickstart a career in heavy construction? Great Lakes Construction Co. is seeking a motivated and hardworking Rebar Tying Assistant to join our team in Ohio City, Cleveland. This is a fantastic ‘learn on the job’ position for individuals with no prior experience in rebar. You will be part of a dynamic crew, assisting experienced rebar workers in preparing and installing reinforcing steel bars (rebar) on various construction projects. This role involves heavy manual labor, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and requires a strong commitment to safety and a willingness to learn new skills. Full training will be provided to ensure you gain the necessary skills to excel in this essential trade. Key Responsibilities
- Assist skilled rebar workers in cutting, bending, and placing rebar according to blueprints and specifications.
- Tie rebar together using various tying tools and techniques to create sturdy and stable cages or mats.
- Load and unload rebar bundles from trucks and move materials around the job site manually or with equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, removing debris and ensuring tools are properly stored.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely under supervision.
- Learn and understand different types of rebar, their sizes, and their proper placement in concrete forms.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth project flow.
- Perform other general labor duties as assigned to support overall project success.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor consistently.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, etc.).
- Physical stamina, strength, and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Eagerness to learn and follow instructions carefully.
- Commitment to working safely and maintaining a safe environment.
- Basic understanding of measurements (preferred, but not required).
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Prior experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor work.
- Basic understanding of construction site safety practices.
- Valid driver's license.
