Job Description
The District of Columbia Department of Public Works is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team as Public Works General Laborers. This is a full-time, entry-level position offering comprehensive benefits and immediate hire. No prior experience in public works is required; we provide full training to all new hires. As a General Laborer, you will perform a variety of manual tasks to support the maintenance and beautification of public spaces across Georgetown and broader Washington D.C. This role is crucial for keeping our city clean, safe, and operational.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor tasks such as litter collection, street sweeping, and debris removal.
- Assist with landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, planting, and watering public areas.
- Operate various hand and power tools safely and efficiently under supervision.
- Participate in snow and ice removal operations during winter months.
- Assist with the setup and teardown of equipment for various public works projects.
- Load and unload materials and supplies from vehicles.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Work effectively as part of a team to complete assigned tasks.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods in various weather conditions.
