Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Public Service General Hands. This is an ‘all levels’ opportunity, meaning we welcome applicants from all backgrounds – whether you’re starting your career, looking for a change, or have years of experience. Full training will be provided to ensure you have the skills and knowledge needed to excel in this diverse role. As a General Hand, you will contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of public facilities, parks, roadsides, and other council assets, playing a vital part in keeping our community clean, safe, and functional.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of parks, gardens, and public spaces.
- Perform general cleaning duties in public facilities and amenity blocks.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance tasks on council infrastructure.
- Operate basic hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Assist skilled tradespersons with various projects as required.
- Support waste management and recycling initiatives.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, reporting any hazards promptly.
- Work collaboratively within a team environment to achieve operational goals.
- Perform other general duties as directed by supervisors.
Required Skills
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current C-Class driver's license (manual preferred).
- Previous experience in a similar outdoor or maintenance role (not essential).
- Basic understanding of OHS principles.
- White Card (Construction Induction).
