Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? CHI Health is excited to offer an entry-level opportunity for a Public Health Educator Trainee to join our dynamic Community Outreach team. This role is perfect for individuals with little to no prior experience in public health, but who possess a strong desire to learn, grow, and contribute to the health and wellness of Omaha residents. As a Trainee, you will receive comprehensive training and mentorship, developing essential skills in health promotion, program support, and community engagement. You will assist in implementing various public health initiatives, connect with diverse populations, and help empower individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles. This position is a stepping stone to a rewarding career in public health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior educators in planning, coordinating, and delivering health education programs and workshops to diverse community groups.
  • Support community outreach events, health fairs, and screenings, helping to set up, manage, and engage participants.
  • Distribute health education materials, answer basic questions, and direct individuals to appropriate resources.
  • Collect and organize data related to program participation and community needs, under supervision.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge of public health principles and practices.
  • Build positive relationships with community members and partners, representing CHI Health with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities and prepare basic reports as requested.

Required Skills

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Enthusiastic and proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., word processing, email).
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license (for community travel).
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • No prior public health experience required; full training will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Some college coursework or a desire to pursue studies in public health, social work, education, or a related field.
  • Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus, but not required.
