Job Description
Are you passionate about the great outdoors and love helping others discover their next adventure? Mountain Equipment Company (MEC) in St. John’s is seeking an enthusiastic Outdoor & Camping Gear Outfitter to join our team. This role is perfect for individuals who thrive in a dynamic retail environment, enjoy sharing their knowledge, and are committed to providing exceptional customer service. You’ll be instrumental in guiding our members through our wide selection of outdoor and camping gear, ensuring they find the perfect equipment for their explorations. Full training on products and sales techniques will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with members to understand their outdoor needs and recommend appropriate gear.
- Provide expert advice on camping equipment, hiking essentials, climbing gear, and other outdoor products.
- Process sales transactions accurately using our POS system.
- Assist with inventory management, including stocking, merchandising, and maintaining a tidy sales floor.
- Educate members on product features, benefits, and proper usage.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Stay informed about new products, industry trends, and outdoor safety practices.
Required Skills
- Strong interest and passion for outdoor activities (camping, hiking, etc.).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new product information.
- Customer-focused attitude with a desire to help others.
- Basic computer literacy for POS systems.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous retail sales or customer service experience.
- Knowledge of specific outdoor gear brands or categories.
- Experience with Point of Sale (POS) systems.
- First Aid and/or CPR certification.
