Job Description

Are you passionate about the outdoors and eager to contribute to the safety and preservation of our national treasures? The National Park Service is seeking a dedicated National Park Law Enforcement Assistant to support our park rangers in various field operations. This outdoor role offers a unique opportunity to work within stunning natural environments, assist with visitor services, maintain park integrity, and learn foundational law enforcement support skills. No prior law enforcement experience is required; comprehensive training will be provided to the successful candidate. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist park rangers with routine patrols, visitor interactions, and information dissemination.
  • Monitor park areas for compliance with regulations and report observations to supervising officers.
  • Support emergency response efforts, including search and rescue operations and first aid.
  • Aid in the documentation and collection of evidence for minor incidents.
  • Participate in park resource management activities, such as trail maintenance or invasive species removal.
  • Operate and maintain various equipment, including vehicles, radios, and basic tools.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and educational information to park visitors.
  • Complete administrative tasks and maintain accurate records as directed.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in diverse outdoor weather conditions.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and report writing.
  • Physical fitness to perform duties requiring walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and occasional strenuous activity.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to established safety protocols and regulations.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • A strong commitment to public service and conservation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in customer service or public interaction.
  • Familiarity with national park rules and regulations.
  • Experience with outdoor activities such as hiking or camping.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
