Job Description

Are you meticulous, eager to learn, and possess a knack for careful handling? Liberty Science Center is seeking a Museum Exhibit Installation Assistant to join our dynamic team. This entry-level position is perfect for someone looking to start a career in museum operations, exhibit preparation, or technical services. No prior experience in exhibit installation is required; we will provide comprehensive training on all aspects of the role, from proper handling techniques to safety protocols and the use of specialized tools. You will play a crucial role in bringing our captivating exhibits to life, ensuring they are presented flawlessly and safely for our visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the unpacking, setup, and installation of various museum exhibits, components, and interactive displays.
  • Learn and apply best practices for careful handling, transportation, and storage of delicate and valuable exhibit materials.
  • Support the technical team with the breakdown, packing, and crating of exhibits for relocation or storage.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and procedures during exhibit installation and de-installation processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including tools and storage areas.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks on exhibits as directed, under supervision.
  • Collaborate with curators, designers, and other departments to ensure exhibit integrity and visitor experience.
  • Attend training sessions to develop skills in exhibit maintenance, AV equipment setup, and facility operations.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to careful, precise work.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong willingness to learn new skills and adapt to various tasks.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Basic problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in museums, science, technology, or educational institutions.
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches) is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience working in a warehouse, logistics, or a similar environment where careful handling was paramount.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic diagrams or instructions.
