Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Meteorology & Climate Science Intern to join our team at our Richmond Hill weather station. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates passionate about climate science and practical field experience. The intern will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of our weather station, contributing to data collection, equipment maintenance, and preliminary analysis. This role offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge meteorological instruments and exposure to real-world climate research.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, calibration, and maintenance of weather station equipment, including sensors for temperature, humidity, wind speed, precipitation, and atmospheric pressure.
- Conduct regular inspections of the weather station to ensure optimal functioning and data integrity.
- Perform routine data collection, quality control checks, and preliminary processing of meteorological data.
- Support senior researchers in analyzing climate data trends and preparing reports.
- Learn to operate and troubleshoot various meteorological instruments and data logging systems.
- Maintain detailed records of station activities, equipment status, and data collection processes.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on research findings and project development.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and operational guidelines for field work and equipment handling.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a Bachelor's degree program in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of meteorological principles and climate processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and record-keeping.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a field environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
- Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with data logging equipment or environmental sensors (academic projects are acceptable).
- Familiarity with data analysis software or programming languages (e.g., Python, R) is a plus.
- Ability to interpret meteorological charts and data.
- Valid G-class driver's license.
