Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Marine Biology Research Intern to join our team for an immersive coastal field work experience. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical skills in marine research, data collection, and laboratory analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced marine biologists on various projects focused on coastal ecosystem health, biodiversity, and conservation efforts. This is a hands-on role involving significant time spent in field environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in regular field expeditions to coastal sites for data collection, including water sampling, sediment collection, and biodiversity surveys.
  • Assist with the deployment and retrieval of scientific equipment, such as sensors and monitoring devices.
  • Perform basic laboratory analysis of collected samples, including organism identification and chemical parameter measurements.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of field data and laboratory results.
  • Contribute to data entry, organization, and preliminary analysis using scientific software.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during field work and laboratory activities.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and preparation for field trips.
  • Present findings or project updates to the research team as required.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's program in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Biology, Oceanography, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in marine biology and coastal ecosystems.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Physical ability to perform field work in various weather conditions and terrains, including lifting equipment up to 30 lbs and standing for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with field sampling techniques (even academic projects).
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures.
  • Experience with data logging or GIS software.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
