Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Macroeconomic Research Intern to join our Investment Banking team in Nanaimo. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in macroeconomic analysis within a fast-paced financial markets environment. The successful candidate will contribute to our research efforts by assisting senior economists and strategists in analyzing global and domestic economic trends, preparing research reports, and supporting investment decisions. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing macroeconomic data from various sources (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv, national statistics agencies).
  • Support senior researchers in monitoring key economic indicators and market developments relevant to investment banking activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of regular macroeconomic research reports, presentations, and client-facing materials.
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings on specific economic topics or policy changes.
  • Verify data accuracy and consistency across different datasets and reports.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on economic forecasts and market strategy.
  • Undertake ad-hoc research projects as required by the team.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated interest in macroeconomics, financial markets, and investment banking.
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Economics, Finance, Business, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with financial databases such as Bloomberg or Refinitiv.
  • Basic understanding of statistical software (e.g., R, Python, Stata).
  • Previous experience with data visualization tools.
  • Strong academic record.
