Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Law Student to join our team as a Legal Intern for their Practical Legal Training (PLT) component. This is an unparalleled opportunity for a law student to gain invaluable hands-on experience in a busy legal practice, working closely with experienced solicitors. You will be exposed to a diverse range of legal matters and client interactions, allowing you to develop essential practical skills required for admission to legal practice. This internship is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the day-to-day operations of a law firm and to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research and analysis on various legal issues.
  • Draft legal documents, including correspondence, briefs, and court forms.
  • Assist solicitors with case preparation, including organizing client files and evidence.
  • Attend client meetings, court hearings, and mediations as appropriate.
  • Assist with administrative tasks to ensure efficient office operations.
  • Review and summarize legal documents and legislation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) program.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent legal research and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A strong desire to learn and develop practical legal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a legal environment (e.g., volunteer work, mooting competitions).
  • Familiarity with legal research databases such as LexisNexis or Westlaw.
  • A demonstrated interest in one or more of our practice areas.
