Job Description

Greencross Vets in Aitkenvale is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Kennel Assistant to join our compassionate team. This entry-level role is perfect for someone who loves working with dogs and is eager to learn the ropes of veterinary support in a busy clinic. Full training will be provided to the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care for all kennel residents, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their health and well-being.
  • Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and exercise areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Walk, exercise, and socialize with dogs, ensuring their comfort and mental stimulation.
  • Assist veterinary nurses and veterinarians with animal restraint and handling during examinations and procedures.
  • Administer medications as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Perform general cleaning duties throughout the clinic to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
  • Report any changes in an animal's behavior, appetite, or health to the veterinary team immediately.
  • Maintain accurate records of feeding, medication, and waste elimination for all animals.
  • Assist with laundry and stocking supplies as needed.

Required Skills

  • A genuine love for animals, particularly dogs.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and observation skills.
  • Physical stamina to lift and handle animals of various sizes, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including weekends and public holidays, as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience volunteering or working with animals in a kennel, shelter, or veterinary setting (even if informal).
  • Basic knowledge of animal behavior and safe handling techniques.
  • First Aid certification for animals.
