Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food Styling Assistant to join our dynamic team in Oakland, California. This entry-level role is perfect for someone with a passion for food, a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn the art and craft of commercial food styling. You will play a crucial supporting role in the preparation and execution of various food styling projects for high-profile commercial shoots, ensuring that our food looks its absolute best on camera. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead food stylists with all aspects of food preparation, including washing, chopping, cooking, and assembling ingredients.
- Organize and maintain the styling kitchen and prep areas, ensuring cleanliness and efficiency.
- Source and manage props, groceries, and equipment needed for shoots.
- Help with plating and arranging food items according to the stylist's direction and project brief.
- Handle post-shoot cleanup, including dishwashing, equipment breakdown, and studio tidying.
- Support the team with administrative tasks, such as inventory management and grocery shopping.
- Learn and apply various food styling techniques under the guidance of experienced professionals.
- Maintain a positive and proactive attitude in a fast-paced creative environment.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for food, cooking, and visual presentation.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow directions accurately and work efficiently under pressure.
- Basic knife skills and comfort in a kitchen environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
- A willingness to learn and adapt in a creative and dynamic setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a professional kitchen, catering, or culinary school.
- Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
- Experience with photography, art, or design is a plus.
- Valid California driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
