Job Description
Scotiabank is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Ethics & Corporate Governance Intern to join our Compliance team in Halifax. This entry-level internship provides an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the critical fields of ethics, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance within a major financial institution. You will support various initiatives aimed at upholding our high standards of conduct and ensuring adherence to internal policies and external regulations. Full training and mentorship will be provided, making this an ideal role for individuals passionate about corporate responsibility and eager to launch their career in compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the research and analysis of regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices related to ethics and corporate governance.
- Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and other compliance documentation for various stakeholders and committees.
- Help maintain and update compliance records, databases, and internal knowledge repositories.
- Participate in the development and delivery of training materials on ethical conduct and governance principles.
- Collaborate with compliance officers and legal teams on special projects, investigations, or policy reviews.
- Contribute to the monitoring of emerging risks and trends in the regulatory landscape.
- Support the team in responding to internal inquiries related to ethics and compliance matters.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in Business, Law, Political Science, Ethics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated interest in corporate ethics, governance, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous coursework or projects related to corporate law, ethics, or compliance.
- Involvement in relevant student organizations or volunteer work.
- Familiarity with financial services industry regulations (e.g., OSFI, IIROC) is a plus, but not required.
- Basic understanding of data analysis tools or techniques.
