Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Editorial Assistant Intern to join our dynamic Book Publishing team in El Paso, TX. You will support our editorial team in all stages of manuscript development, from initial submission to final publication, contributing to the creation of impactful educational and literary content. Key Responsibilities
- Assist editors with manuscript review, including initial reads, research, and basic fact-checking.
- Prepare manuscript materials for copyediting and production, ensuring all components are accounted for.
- Help manage editorial schedules and deadlines, communicating with authors and internal teams.
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends and opportunities.
- Proofread galleys and page proofs for errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency.
- Organize and maintain editorial files, databases, and project documentation.
- Support the submission process by logging incoming manuscripts and corresponding with authors and agents.
- Participate in editorial meetings, offering insights and contributing to creative discussions.
- Assist with administrative tasks as needed to ensure smooth departmental operations.
Required Skills

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

- Familiarity with style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style).
- Basic knowledge of publishing software or content management systems.
