Job Description
Join the Harris County Courts Security Division as a Court Bailiff / Security Officer and play a critical role in upholding the integrity and safety of our judicial system. This position is responsible for maintaining peace and order within courtrooms, facilities, and surrounding premises, ensuring the protection of judges, court personnel, litigants, and the general public. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain order and decorum in courtrooms and judicial facilities.
- Provide security for judges, court personnel, and visitors.
- Conduct security screenings of individuals and packages entering court buildings.
- Respond to emergencies, disturbances, and security incidents swiftly and effectively.
- Escort prisoners to and from courtrooms as required, ensuring secure custody.
- Serve as a visible deterrent to unlawful activities.
- Enforce court policies, procedures, and relevant laws.
- Monitor security cameras and alarm systems.
- Prepare detailed incident reports and maintain accurate logs.
- Assist with crowd control and manage access to restricted areas.
Required Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Capacity to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal and de-escalation skills.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including standing for extended periods, walking, and potentially restraining individuals.
- Basic computer proficiency for report writing and system monitoring.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in law enforcement, military, or security services.
- Completion of a recognized Security Officer training program.
- Knowledge of Texas state laws and court procedures.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Ability to obtain state-mandated security licenses/certifications within a specified timeframe.
