Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Cost Estimator to join our dynamic team in Downtown Austin. The Cost Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for various construction projects, from conceptual design to final construction, ensuring profitability and project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for all phases of construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to understand project scope and requirements.
- Research and gather data on material costs, labor rates, and equipment expenses to ensure accurate pricing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements affecting construction costs.
- Develop and maintain a network of suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive bidding.
- Participate in client meetings and present estimates, clearly articulating assumptions and justifications.
- Assist in preparing bid packages and proposals.
- Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle and provide variance analysis.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in construction estimating, preferably in commercial or industrial projects.
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Timberline, Assemble) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret complex construction drawings and specifications.
- Solid understanding of construction processes, methods, and materials.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator – CPE, LEED AP).
- Experience with large-scale, complex commercial or institutional projects.
- Familiarity with local Austin construction market conditions and regulations.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish) is a plus.
- Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and integrated project delivery methods.
