Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Community Arts Officer to join our dynamic Cultural Development team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the planning, coordination, and delivery of a diverse range of council-led cultural projects and events. You will work closely with local artists, community groups, and internal stakeholders to bring creative visions to life, enriching the cultural fabric of Greater Dandenong. This position requires a passion for the arts, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of council cultural projects and events.
  • Coordinate logistical aspects of arts projects, including venue booking, artist liaison, and resource management.
  • Engage with community groups, local artists, and cultural organisations to foster collaborative partnerships.
  • Prepare project briefs, reports, and promotional materials for cultural initiatives.
  • Administer project budgets, process invoices, and track expenditures in line with council policies.
  • Support the marketing and promotion of cultural programs through various communication channels.
  • Contribute to grant applications and funding proposals for arts and culture projects.
  • Attend and provide on-site support for community arts events, often outside regular business hours.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases of cultural programs and participants.
  • Ensure all projects comply with relevant safety and council guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in project coordination or event management, preferably within the arts or cultural sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills, with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general office administration.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • A genuine passion for community arts and cultural development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Arts Management, Cultural Studies, Event Management, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working within local government or a not-for-profit cultural organisation.
  • Knowledge of the arts and cultural landscape within Greater Dandenong or broader Melbourne.
