Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable City Street Sweeper Operator to join our Environmental Services team. This vital role involves operating specialist street sweeping vehicles to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of streets, public spaces, and industrial areas across Portsmouth. Full training on specific equipment will be provided, but prior experience with commercial vehicle operation is highly beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate street sweeping machinery safely and efficiently along designated routes.
- Perform daily pre-operation checks and basic maintenance on vehicles.
- Report any vehicle defects, damage, or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Ensure all areas are swept to a high standard, removing litter, debris, and leaves.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and council policies.
- Work collaboratively with other team members and supervisors.
- Be an ambassador for Portsmouth City Council, maintaining a professional image.
Required Skills
- Full UK driving licence (Category C preferred, or willingness to obtain it with support).
- Proven experience operating commercial vehicles or heavy machinery.
- Ability to work early morning shifts consistently.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating street sweeping equipment.
- Relevant certifications in vehicle operation or health and safety.
- Knowledge of Portsmouth's road network and geographical areas.
