Job Description

Join the Town of Gander’s Public Works team as a City Street Sweeper Operator. This vital role involves operating street sweeping equipment to ensure the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of Gander’s roadways, sidewalks, and public areas. You will be responsible for early morning shifts, playing a crucial part in preparing our town for daily activities, and contributing directly to the quality of life in our community. We offer stable full-time employment with the security of a government pension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate street sweeping equipment safely and efficiently on designated routes.
  • Perform pre-operation and post-operation checks and routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and traffic laws.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of work performed, including areas covered and materials collected.
  • Assist with other public works duties as needed during off-sweeping seasons or operational requirements.
  • Ensure proper disposal of collected debris and waste.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks and work early morning shifts.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating street sweepers or similar heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of Gander's road network.
  • Experience working in a municipal or public works environment.
  • Class 3 driver's license an asset.
