Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Chemical Engineering Intern to join our Process Optimization team in Mississauga, ON. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world industrial processes, focusing on enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, and improving product quality. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to critical projects and gaining practical experience in a leading global chemical company. Full training and mentorship will be provided, making this an ideal role for students looking to kickstart their engineering careers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in analyzing existing chemical processes for potential improvements in efficiency and yield.
- Collect and interpret process data using various analytical tools and software.
- Participate in the design and implementation of process modifications and optimization strategies.
- Conduct root cause analysis for operational deviations and propose corrective actions.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation related to assigned projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality control, and R&D.
- Ensure all work complies with BASF's stringent safety, health, and environmental standards.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong academic record with foundational knowledge of chemical engineering principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II) is an asset.
- Basic understanding of statistical process control (SPC) principles.
- Previous experience with laboratory work or industrial projects (academic or extracurricular).
- Demonstrated interest in sustainable chemistry, process intensification, or advanced manufacturing.
