Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Cemetery Labourer to join our team, responsible for the respectful and professional maintenance of our cemetery grounds and facilities. This role involves a variety of manual tasks, ensuring the cemetery is kept in an immaculate and dignified condition for visitors and ceremonies. You will contribute to providing a peaceful and well-maintained environment, upholding the highest standards of care and respect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general groundskeeping duties including mowing, weeding, pruning, and planting.
  • Prepare grave sites for interments, which includes digging, backfilling, and ensuring correct dimensions.
  • Assist with the placement and removal of monuments and headstones as directed.
  • Maintain pathways, roads, and other infrastructure within the cemetery.
  • Operate various hand tools and light machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure the cemetery grounds are clean, tidy, and free from debris at all times.
  • Interact with bereaved families and visitors with empathy and professionalism.
  • Adhere to all WHS policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

Required Skills

  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform demanding manual labour.
  • A strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work sensitively and respectfully in a solemn environment.
  • Capacity to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or general labour.
  • Experience operating small plant and equipment (e.g., mowers, whipper snippers).
  • Current C-class driver's license.
  • Construction Induction White Card.
