Job Description
Are you passionate about the Australian outback and looking for an exciting opportunity to kickstart your career in cattle mustering? Outback Stock & Station Services is seeking enthusiastic and physically fit individuals to join our team as an Entry Level Cattle Mustering Assistant. This is a unique chance to learn the ropes of large-scale cattle operations, with a strong emphasis on developing your horse riding and stock handling skills. No prior professional mustering experience is required, as full training will be provided on-site at our stations. While the work is challenging, it is incredibly rewarding for those who love the outdoors and working with animals. This role is primarily based at various station locations across regional Western Australia, with recruitment and onboarding managed from our Rockingham office.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced musterers in herding and moving cattle across vast station lands.
- Learn and apply safe horse handling and riding techniques for mustering.
- Participate in the care and maintenance of horses, including feeding, watering, and grooming.
- Support ground crews with various station tasks, including fencing, water point maintenance, and general yard work.
- Adhere strictly to animal welfare guidelines and safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with team members and follow instructions from lead musterers.
- Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic in challenging environmental conditions.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for working with horses and livestock.
- Basic horse riding ability (e.g., trail riding, recreational riding).
- Excellent physical fitness and endurance.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Reliability and a robust work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with horses, farm work, or rural living.
- Valid Australian driver's license (manual preferred).
- Basic mechanical aptitude for vehicle and equipment maintenance.
