Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Boat Builder to join our specialist team in Williamstown. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the construction, repair, and customisation of a variety of marine vessels, focusing on projects that demand exceptional attention to detail and advanced fabrication techniques. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of marine materials, structural integrity, and the ability to interpret complex blueprints to deliver high-quality outcomes. You will work within a dynamic workshop environment, contributing to projects from initial concept through to completion, ensuring all work adheres to stringent industry standards and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Constructing, assembling, and fitting various boat components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Performing repairs, modifications, and restorations on a range of marine vessels.
  • Working with diverse materials including fiberglass, timber, composites, and metals.
  • Operating a variety of hand and power tools safely and proficiently.
  • Ensuring all work meets quality control standards and adheres to safety protocols.
  • Collaborating with design engineers, project managers, and other tradespeople.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving structural or functional issues during construction or repair.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient work area.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in boat building or marine fabrication.
  • Proficiency in working with marine-grade materials (fiberglass, timber, composites, aluminum).
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of marine construction techniques and principles.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to workplace safety practices.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in Boat Building, Marine Craft Construction, or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced composite construction techniques.
  • Familiarity with marine systems (plumbing, electrical, propulsion).
  • Experience in a specialist or custom boat building environment.
  • Forklift license and/or experience operating overhead cranes.
