Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and vigilant Biosecurity Officers to join our team in Bundaberg. As a Biosecurity Officer, you will be on the frontline of protecting Australia’s unique environment, agricultural industries, and economy from harmful pests and diseases. This challenging and rewarding role involves the inspection of goods, vessels, passengers, and cargo to ensure compliance with Australia’s biosecurity laws. You will play a vital role in preventing the introduction and spread of exotic pests and diseases, safeguarding our nation’s future.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of arriving passengers, cargo, vessels, and mail for biosecurity risks.
- Identify and interpret biosecurity legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Collect and manage samples for diagnostic testing, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Implement biosecurity control measures, including treatment, export, or destruction of non-compliant items.
- Provide clear and concise biosecurity advice to the public and stakeholders.
- Utilize screening equipment and other tools effectively to detect risks.
- Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of inspections and incidents.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to manage complex biosecurity issues.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to maintain expertise in biosecurity practices.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to follow procedures and protocols accurately.

Preferred Qualifications
- A Certificate IV or Diploma in Biosecurity, Environmental Management, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Previous experience in regulatory compliance, border control, or a related enforcement role.
- Knowledge of Australia's biosecurity system and relevant legislation.
- Experience working with diverse cultural groups.
