Join Nordstrom’s dedicated alterations team in Temecula, CA, as a Bespoke Tailor / Alterations Assistant. We are seeking an individual with foundational sewing skills and a keen eye for detail to support our lead tailors. In this vital role, you will assist in ensuring that every garment fits our customers impeccably, upholding Nordstrom’s reputation for quality and precision. This position involves performing basic to intermediate alterations, operating industrial and domestic sewing machines, and providing excellent customer service during fittings and interactions. Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead tailors with customer fittings, accurately taking measurements and noting alteration requirements.
- Perform basic to intermediate garment alterations, including hems, seams, minor repairs, and adjustments on a variety of fabrics and styles.
- Operate industrial and domestic sewing machines proficiently and safely.
- Execute hand sewing tasks for specific garments and intricate details as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe alterations workspace in accordance with company standards.
- Handle garments with extreme care, ensuring they are properly prepared for fitting sessions or customer collection.
- Assist with the inventory management and ordering of tailoring supplies as directed.
- Provide excellent, personalized customer service during all interactions related to alterations, addressing inquiries and concerns professionally.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in operating various sewing machines (industrial and domestic models).
- Demonstrable hand sewing skills with attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of garment construction techniques and knowledge of different fabric types.
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision in all tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer and team interaction.

- Minimum of 1 year of practical sewing experience in a professional or personal capacity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a retail alterations department, dry cleaner, or a professional tailoring shop.

- Formal education or certification in fashion design, tailoring, or garment construction.
