Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced APS6 Policy Officer to join our dynamic team in Fremantle. This role is central to our mission, requiring a keen analytical mind and a commitment to public service. You will be responsible for undertaking research, analysing complex issues, developing policy options, and preparing advice for senior executives on a range of social and regional policy matters. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on social and regional policy issues, identifying emerging trends and potential impacts.
- Develop evidence-based policy proposals, briefing papers, and advice for senior leadership and ministers.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including other government agencies, community groups, and industry representatives, to gather insights and build consensus.
- Draft correspondence, submissions, and reports with clarity, accuracy, and adherence to government standards.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of existing policies and programs, recommending adjustments as necessary.
- Represent the department at inter-agency meetings and working groups.
- Contribute to team projects, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in policy development, analysis, or program management within a government or related environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear, actionable advice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft high-quality briefs, reports, and correspondence.
- Proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and build productive working relationships.
- Sound understanding of the Australian political landscape and government decision-making processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Social Sciences, Law, or a related field.
- Experience working with diverse regional or community groups.
- Knowledge of current social and economic policy challenges facing Western Australia.
