Job Description

As a trainee, you will learn to be the calm voice in chaos, effectively receiving and processing emergency calls, dispatching appropriate services (police, fire, EMS), and providing crucial instructions to callers during critical situations. Upon successful completion of our rigorous training program, you will transition into a full-fledged Emergency Dispatcher.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively and successfully complete all aspects of the paid, comprehensive training program.
  • Learn to answer incoming emergency (911/999) and non-emergency calls with professionalism and empathy.
  • Develop skills to accurately gather critical information from callers, often under stressful circumstances.
  • Master the use of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and multi-line telephone systems.
  • Learn to prioritize calls and dispatch appropriate emergency services efficiently.
  • Understand and apply proper protocols for various emergency scenarios.
  • Communicate effectively and concisely with callers and field personnel.
  • Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers as directed by training and protocol.
  • Maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress situations.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and retain complex information and procedures quickly.
  • Strong active listening skills and empathy.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer usage and typing.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Commitment to public safety and serving the community.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check and psychological evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service or call center environment.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish).
  • Familiarity with the Abilene geographic area.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License.
