Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nuclear Engineer / Reactor Operator to join our dynamic team in Ottawa, Ontario. This pivotal role involves the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of nuclear reactor systems, as well as contributing to critical engineering projects within our nuclear facilities. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with stringent safety regulations, optimizing reactor performance, and supporting ongoing operational excellence. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a high-level security clearance and offers comprehensive visa sponsorship and immigration support for qualified international candidates, demonstrating our commitment to attracting top global talent. You will work within a highly regulated environment, demanding meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving capabilities, and a deep understanding of nuclear principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor nuclear reactor systems and associated plant equipment according to established procedures and safety protocols.
  • Perform routine and emergency procedures, including start-up, shut-down, and power maneuvers, ensuring strict adherence to operating limits.
  • Conduct thorough inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance activities on reactor components and systems.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with all relevant nuclear safety standards, regulatory requirements, and licensing conditions.
  • Analyze reactor performance data, identify anomalies, and contribute to troubleshooting and resolution efforts.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews, modifications, and upgrades, providing operational input and expertise.
  • Prepare comprehensive operational reports, logs, and documentation.
  • Actively participate in ongoing training programs, drills, and simulations to maintain and enhance operational proficiency and emergency preparedness.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, maintenance, and safety personnel.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Nuclear Reactor Operator or Nuclear Engineer in a regulated nuclear environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, and nuclear safety principles.
  • Familiarity with Canadian nuclear safety standards, regulatory frameworks (e.g., CNSC), and licensing requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a high-level government security clearance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Canada or equivalent.
  • Experience with CANDU reactor technology.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a nuclear facility.
  • Fluency in French.
  • Certified Nuclear Operator or equivalent professional certifications.
