Job Description
Join Western Health as a Public Health Nurse and play a critical role in promoting and protecting the health of communities across Western Newfoundland. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments for individuals and families in various community settings.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate community health programs and interventions.
- Provide immunizations and manage immunization clinics.
- Offer health education and counseling on topics such as nutrition, communicable diseases, parenting, and chronic disease management.
- Participate in communicable disease surveillance, investigation, and control measures.
- Provide maternal and child health services, including prenatal education, postnatal follow-up, and well-baby clinics.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, community agencies, and government departments.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records.
- Advocate for public health policies and programs.
Required Skills
- Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL).
- Bachelor of Nursing (BN) degree.
- Demonstrated knowledge of public health principles and practices.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- CPR/BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a public health setting.
- Experience working with diverse cultural groups.
- Knowledge of health promotion strategies and community development principles.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
