Job Description
Are you looking for an exciting entry-level opportunity to start a career in maritime transport? BC Ferries is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Public Ferry Deckhand Trainees. This is a fantastic opportunity for those with no prior experience in the marine industry, as comprehensive training will be provided. As a Deckhand Trainee, you will learn the ropes of ferry operations, ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers and crew, and contributing to the efficient operation of our vessels. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all aspects of comprehensive onboard training programs.
- Assist with mooring and unmooring operations under supervision.
- Learn and perform duties related to passenger and vehicle control during loading and unloading.
- Support senior deckhands and officers in maintaining a safe and clean vessel.
- Familiarize yourself with and adhere to all safety procedures, regulations, and emergency protocols.
- Assist passengers with inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance tasks as directed.
- Participate in safety drills and emergency preparedness exercises.
- Maintain vigilance and report any unusual observations to senior crew members.
