Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and organised Heritage Project Assistant to join our team in Wodonga. This role is integral to supporting various state government heritage projects, including archaeological surveys, historical site management, and community engagement initiatives. The successful candidate will provide essential administrative and logistical support, contribute to research, and help ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about heritage to contribute to significant state-level projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to project managers and heritage specialists.
  • Assist in the preparation of project documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Coordinate meetings, workshops, and site visits, including scheduling and minute-taking.
  • Conduct preliminary research on heritage sites, historical records, and policy frameworks.
  • Maintain project files, databases, and communication channels.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and community groups.
  • Support the monitoring of project progress and contribute to reporting requirements.
  • Assist with on-site activities as required, including data collection and basic fieldwork support.
  • Manage project-related correspondence and inquiries efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A genuine interest in cultural heritage, history, or environmental conservation.
  • Capacity to follow instructions and adapt to changing project priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Heritage Management, Archaeology, History, Environmental Studies, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (paid or voluntary) in an administrative or project support role.
  • Familiarity with Victorian heritage legislation and policies.
  • Experience with database management systems or GIS software.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.
