Job Description

Join DuPont’s cutting-edge Performance Fabrics team in Mansfield, OH, as a Textile Engineering Intern. This is an incredible opportunity for a motivated and curious student to gain hands-on experience in the research, development, and testing of advanced textile materials. You will work alongside experienced engineers and scientists on real-world projects, contributing to the next generation of high-performance fabrics. This role offers exposure to various stages of product development, from concept to pilot production, with a strong emphasis on material science and textile processing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in the development and optimization of new performance fabric formulations and processing techniques.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments, including fiber characterization, fabric testing, and data analysis.
  • Operate and maintain textile processing equipment, such as extruders, weaving looms, or finishing lines, under supervision.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and observations accurately and systematically.
  • Participate in team meetings, contributing ideas and insights to project discussions.
  • Research new materials, technologies, and industry trends relevant to performance textiles.
  • Support quality control efforts by performing routine tests on materials and finished products.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing project findings.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Textile Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong foundational understanding of textile fibers, yarns, and fabrics.
  • Basic knowledge of textile manufacturing processes (e.g., weaving, knitting, nonwovens, dyeing, finishing).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated interest in performance materials and sustainable textile solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a lab setting or with textile processing equipment (academic projects count).
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software (e.g., JMP, Minitab).
  • Coursework in polymer science, composites, or advanced materials.
  • Experience with CAD software or simulation tools for textile design.
